Report - Southern Gas Social Club - Reading - April 2018

Hello,

Been a while since my last report!
I've been doing lots of exploring though, just need to find the time to write up the reports. This one was a random one because we were in the area and saw someone elses report on it, so decided to hit it up.

History

Explore
It was a pretty quick and easy explore. One of those useless fences right outside it had already been pulled open and the main door to the building was also wide open. The place is pretty much a rotten shell with the remains of natural decay and the "help" of vandals. Not to mention the room to the far right been badly drug abused with needles and blood stains everywhere!: horrific to look at. I imagine this place was once a beauty but now like the article says "just an eyesore for neighbours".

It's pretty good if you're in the area and want a quick one to add to the list but other than that, not much too see! Enjoyyyyy..

Awesome post I went in Tuesday morning but unfortunately the only accessible building is the single story one the 2 story one is now fully sealed

its best it is sealed would prevent someone going in there and burning it down its the last remaining building left of Reading Gas Works Company along with the The Gas Holder which is due for demolition.

Yes I do agree with you but it is a shame the gas holder has to go

These photos are petty surreal to me - I worked for Southern Gas in 1981 - 1985 and every lunchtime we'd go to this Social Club for a couple of beers. There was a full sized snooker table in one room and a bar in another with a jukebox blasting out Culture Club and other bands of the day......There was another big Huntley & Palmers building still up ( where Prudential is now ), there was a small door on one corner that was occasionally open where you could buy broken biscuits ....
