SSSI - Manchester
What originally started out as a failed attempt at Hulme's most popular tourist attraction,
soon turned into a balmy evenings excursion to possibly Manchester's worst drain ?
Stinky Skanky Sewage Interceptor, or SSSI for short, is just down from the Works in the
delightful suburb of Collyhurst.
After tackling undergrowth that would have put Borneo to shame we dropped down into
the brook and headed for the infall. Roughly 5ft in diameter, SSSI is mostly of brick construction
and dates to around the late 19th century.
What it lacks in length, it more than makes up for in being utterly skanktastic...
Big thanks as ever to Ojay for the invite on the night, also present Nickindroy and Mardsen1002
She's a bit of a stoop, and an absolute stinker of a drain
around 500 ft down is this huge split level inspection chamber, this would later serve as our
escape point for the evening after a fight with the manhole
after a short wander we were greeted with the huge penstock, and just over the wall,
the main sewer which I didn't fancy climbing onto without gloves
Not what we set out to see, but a worthwhile wander anyway..cheers for looking
