Another one got no clue how ended up at. I *think* this was the first time I met the wonderful @clebby - also explored with @ImmortalOwl. Proper lovely mill this, as others found out after our visit that some of it was defo in use still. I recall going back a weekend or two later and walking in same way and hearing voices and radio in the workshops. Shame as the workshops @Speed and co got into looked fantastic.

Stanley Mill is grade 1 listed woolen mill located just oustide of the village of Stonehouse. Work started on building the mill in 1812 and completed in 1813. It remained in use until 1989 when the majority of the mill was closed down. Given its listed status English Heritage worked with the current owners to ensure the building does not fall into disrepair.

As mill porn goes, this is right up there for me

Cracking shots there. The architecture is quite something. Rather special with the looms, bobbins still intact. Very nice :thumb

Not seen that one before. Tis a cracker! What happened to it?

I visited this one in September last year. Unfortunately by that time it was partly demolished. A lot still remains however most of it seems to be being reused. There is a small sector that is still vacant (about two floors if I remember correctly) but it's stripped to the brick work.

There used to be an old guy who was a kind of caretaker and looked after the machines and kept them in working order. They did open it to the public for the yearly open doors weekend but Ive not seen it on the programme for a while now.

I do like a good mill and wouldnt mind a mooch myself when life starts up again as its only 4 odd miles from me.
