Seeing lots of photos cropping up of Sunnyside in various places, we figured it may have been time to go and have one last look around the place before it got utterly ruined. Disappointingly there was no access to the Main building on this occasion. Security have gone to town with new boards and heras fencing , which has then thoughtfully been topped with grease. Just from the outside though, it was clear lots had changed since my first visit a couple of years ago. There was much more smashed windows, rubbish and boards than before. It wasn't all bad, as we did get to see inside Carnegie House which is probably the building that interested me most after the main hospital.

Carnegie House, named after the hospitals founder, Susan Carnegie, was built as an external villa for privately paying patients in 1899. It sat far away from the Main Hospital in nice grounds overlooking a bowling green. For me, the building got better the further up we went. Of course, the lounge upstairs is stunning with its zodiac ceiling, but I think I enjoyed the top floor the most. What was probably staff accommodation had at some point in possibly the early 1970's been butchered by a new hot water system and subsequently disused. It was very original up here, and some of the graffiti on the walls dated back to the 70s - a far cry from the luxurious feeling the lower floors had to offer.

Great to see this part pop up again. Glad that ornate ceiling has remained intact. Are the heaters still on in that room?

They weren't running but could have been powered still, not sure. It looked like someone had been sleeping in there tbh.

It’s a popular sleepover spot, I know a few people who have kipped in there because it has heating! Who needs Airbnb! Did you see security there? I know a few people who have been caught recently, both inside and outside.

No, just the usual dog walkers. I've seen a few reports of people being caught, it sounds like contractors are starting to do things in the main building.

There was contractors there when we went last week. I got caught behind the fence lol. There’s def no access round the back of main building, that much I can say. I was escorted through the building at the back and out the metal gates. They’re well on it now!!

When it was still NHS owned they had the heaters on timers to keep the room dry but I think most of the power is generally off in the buliding as they've got that external supply coming in by the old plant/lift room. Really hope that ceiling doesn't get damaged anytime soon.

Yeah I was curious as the I went in there January and April and the heating was on, but not in May. And as for your comment about Northesk Villa, that’s the only part I have not done yet. Heading back home soon so that’s top of my list then I can post a report of the entire place. I really hope that last part is worth the wait!

You can turn the power on but wasn't sure if it still fed up to the first floor
