Sweet leaf is a continuation of the Batley beck with the Batley bus station culvert and Monument and transporter culverts below it . Scouting on maps there looked to be a few more underground sections to explore further upstream not sure if they would be up to much ? but nothing ventured nothing gained i climbed in on Bradford road bang across from emerald street and had a nosy

P8290077.JPG
should have called it stingy bastard nettle leaf as only being in a t shirt and waders the only option to gain entry is to climb through em ! ( note next time long sleeves and gloves ! )
P8290078.JPG
some bird poo in here , but at least a decent size
P8290079.JPG
timber floor above suggests not been culverted over that long ? moving on upstream
P8290083.JPG
looking downstream next pic looking upstream
P8290082.JPG
the timber beams gave it a sort of castle feel lol
P8290084.JPG
P8290085.JPG
after a short open air section and being nettle stung again another section of culvert appeared this time concrete box

P8290090.JPG
long culvert this going under Wilton park
P8290091.JPG
large manhole then infall up ahead
P8290092.JPG
another open air section then under a bridge
P8290096.JPG
through this then a change in styles
P8290097.JPG
start of old style culvert , could hear voices above and the smell of a different kind of sweet leaf ! Not hanging around i quickly snapped a pic and went back underground

This was turning out to be an unexpected gift , Cracking culvert !

P8290110.JPG
climbed out here on to Lea road then walked up to the next culverted section ( actually drove up to nearly the end and then came back downstream but it will keep things simpler if we keep the pics going upstream )

Thats got some of the best changes Ive seen. You seem to have the lot in this one. Timber beams are different and are rather Jacobean ish . Concrete, bricks, stone and metal. Lovely images.

A good mix of construction styles and materials.
Much of it looks bigger than I would have expected for upstream of Monument etc.
I particularly like the brick built sections.
Surprised that open air section doesn't have railings or fencing round it, looks like an accident waiting to happen with being in the bottom of that dip amongst the trees.

Hi - sorry to message you on here but am keen to speak to you. For some reason I can't message you through the private function - could you message me and see if that works? Or you can drop me an email at [email protected]. Thanks again, Matt Q

Good lord...cool explore.

Is that tunnel as large as it seems from the pictures?? There doesn't seem to be any decent tunnels that are explorable down this way (Berkshire).

Anyone care to correct me??
