I did not even know about this place till someone who lived near it posted a few pics on a Norfolk FB page. Me and my mate started a hunt for it. It was a bit of a job to find it but we did in the end. Hidden well in a massive woodland it's a unique little place, and when I say small it's literally tiny with space for a handful of chairs. It stayed fairly quiet for months. But as with most places it got out and is circling a fair bit now.
The chapel was built by a Czechoslovakian man in the seventies, I can not find a proper name for it. He was born to a Catholic family in 1918. When war broke out he was put in the Czech army but with defeat he fled to Poland. He joined the Czech legion over there. But when Poland fell he went to France and ended up in England after. He met and married an English woman in 1945 and they moved to Leamington Spa were he worked at the jaguar factory for many years. He loved the forests of Czechoslovakia in which he worked as a young man so eventually bought some woodland in Norfolk. He lived in a caravan in the woods. In these woods he built this little chapel and had stuff donated to him. The big church door on this little chapel seems odd. It was finally consecrated in 1974 and opened in 1983. His wife died in 1998 and he continued to live in the woods till he sadly passed away.

Over the other side of the woods were he lived is some old car shells. These were part of his collection.

It's called Porta Maria Shrine, to give it the full name - can't remember where I saw that exactly but I was doing some digging on it too before I went.

Honestly can't remember which site I read it on, if I find it again I'll dig it out for you! Yeah glad I got there before it became too widely trampled, for a tiny little spot it's very nice.

Lovely place this chapel is and the cars, repeating yourself and others above, it isn't the easiest to spot. Made even more difficult by some of the roads not suited to anything smaller than a SUV.

Cracking set of image and nice write up.
