1. The History
This parish church stands near to Market Stainton Hall and is dedicated to St Michael and dates from the 13th century. It is Grade II listed and built of greenstone, limestone and red brick and consists of a chancel and nave with south porch and a large embattled western tower. The church is disused having been made redundant by the Diocese of Lincoln and is currently for sale by private treaty, on the Instructions of Diocese of Lincoln at a guide piece of £20,000. It underwent heavy restoration in Victorian times. As far back as 1871 White's guide suggests the church was in dire straits with no parish priest, few villagers and those unlikely to be wealthy (wrong jobs).
Despite this it was restored in 1886 by a Grantham Justice of the Peace and then again in 1909. It’s a relatively small church with only seating for 80. It houses monuments of the Walesby family. In July 2010 it was reported as "filthy and neglected" and on the night of 7th October 2011 lead was stolen from the roof.
2. The Explore
Vert east come easy go. Situated in a very sleepy Lincolnshire wolds village. Hopefully a buyer will be found, and this medieval gem will be saved. The price tag is cheap, but the issues here are that it is Grade II listed and it have not been approved to conversion for domestic dwelling.
