Another trio of sites from Ireland, not worthy of a report in their own right:
1. The Strange House
Zero history on this place. Pretty small but very colourful. Was on the backroads to our holiday home and we passed the pace numerous times. On Google Maps the house looked in reasonable shape without all the weird stuff. Clearly though somebody acquired the place and turned it into a bit a of living art house. Tragedy then appears to have struck and the small cottage completely burned down. What the real story behind this place is, I guess we’ll never know.
View from the road:
And greeting either side of the driveway:
And the contents that was spared the fire:
What remains for the stove:
And the cooker:
2. The Gate house, Kilmurry house
The target here was Kilmurry house itself but the house is now under renovation so bailed on that. Instead had to be content with the little lodge at the entrance to the estate. Empty and pretty bare but good for a few pictures.
In we go:
Where the sink was or a chair?
And finally:
3. The Bridge View Restaurant and Bistro, Tallow Bridge, County Waterford
This would have been a nice restaurant in its day with its two log fires and a lovely raised patio area overlooking the river. On the Google Earth image from August 2011, all looks well at the Bridge View. There’s a great write-up of the place HERE https://tasteofireland.com/restaurants/447-The-Brideview-Bar-and-Bistro-Tallow. It appears to have been vacated by the owners who ran it for over 10 years. It was successfully sold but then suffered from a serious fire in 2013 which forced its closure. The local paper reported in 2016 that the property was in receivership and in the hands of a bank, while on the market for €90,000. The building, which has significant historical value, is a protected structure but in a very sorry state of repair.
