Report - United nations bufferzone, nicosia 11/10/2020

the United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus is a demilitarized zone, patrolled by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), that was established in 1964 and extended in 1974 after the ceasefire of 16 August 1974, following the Turkish intervention of Cyprus. some parts of the area are quite literally frozen in time due to families fleeing the violence, i was able to "gain access" to two parts, a part of nicosia city which i found myself spending most of my time exploring 'not hiding' in an underground car park, another part i managed to gain access to was Nicosia airport which was pretty exciting i must say, especially getting around these areas.

First report,Im not expecting to be up to standard lol, but i did also have to rush these photos so there not the most skilled!

That’s a great report lucky you didn’t get caught, I heard the UN were now using the airport site as some kind of base ?? One dite I would love to get to.

Thanks! Yeah it was a pretty hot area to get too but I didn’t see to much going on just the odd vehicle going around, i think there’s a plot behind the airfield the UN use as a base

The airport was used for the UN Medal parade when your tour was finished. we were based a few miles up the road in old Nissen huts and the Australian Civilian Police (Aust Civ Pol) about a mile away. The Canadians were based in the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia. Great report, brings back some great memories has my 21 st birthday there.

Awesome report, I love cyprus, normally go twice a year,, I always have plans to do this but I know its difficult and I end up feeding stray cats instead
