If you’ve ever been the canal in woodley and seen it’s chimney, then you probably know of the mill here. Unity was a spinning mill turned into a chemical works and brewery abandoned in 2003. Some other threads explain it’s history better than me as I can’t find much, so check them out for a history overview
Exterior (pre demolition)
Prior to initial demolition, I only made one visit and got caught and kicked off, only saw a tiny section of the building that I’ll show now
Storage room? There were a lot of switches here, what I presume a shutterand what appears to be lower floors
‘Shutter door’ section at back plus the switches
Office block and storage area from what I presume, however I can’t gather much as most of it was gone when I came back
Exterior second demolition
You can see where the hallway was, plus ‘storage area’ that’s been demolished
Front left of full building, I’m afraid I don’t have many full photos of the front as getting spotted was easy, but there are loads of photos showing the front online
back area plus maybe truck unloading area? It had a maintenance cutout in the floor for trucks likely so I assume it was that
Destroyed building, ironically it was destroyed to stop second floor access, yet that floor collapsed making a ladder easier to use than the stairs
Demolished office block
Interior pre demo
As with most mills, the main building is completely empty so I’ll mainly focus on the additional buildings connected
Large room, most likely had second floor as there are doors and filled indoor ways
Other side of large room
Extremely large open area, I asked my grandad as he works in some old mills and he assumes it was for cargo lifts which makes sense. 4 stories high
Unknown room
Large open space, it looks like that smaller chimney connected to it so maybe engine related? As the next room is very large and has vent fans
large open area, possibly engine room due to the fans and air ducts
A vent duct and fan
Office block, extremely overgrown
Jumping through these windows inside was fun
I don’t know how many photos I’ve used up here so I’ll move onto the next part
