I had checked this place several times with not much luck after driving past it one day by chance. But one time I was that way I thought I would check again. I spotted the doors open and two cars outside. So popped my head in and asked if I could take photos. They were more than happy too and it seems they were going to convert the top floor into a restaurant. The large silo looms over this picturesque area and would make a great view from the top. Not sure how they got on as I can imagine covid kicking in not long after put a dent on a new business.
A corn mill had been on the other side of the road for hundreds of years. When the mill ceased working it was used for maltings with a large maltings on the other side of the road built in the early 18th century. I would imagine the silo was built to compliment the maltings. The silo was built in 1958 but the maltings were eventually destroyed in 1987 and the silo went out of commission in 2016. The conveyor still exists across the river from the silo and a small building as well.
How the maltings looked just before they were demolished.
The silo on the other side.
