I checked it was Ok to post one of my older explores while I am waiting to get out and about and do some more new stuff. Hope you find this useful/interesting, the pictures are not brilliant though as this is before I had my SLR.
The place doesnt seem to have been documented by anyone else on here which is why I thought about posting this rather than my other stuff, plus it is one of my favourites due to the novelty of having been abandoned for 8 years (at the point of this explore) and remaining unmolested due to its relative remoteness. The only sign of life I ever saw there were a few guard sheep. The plant was closed in 1998 when it was superceded by a new one. Its purpose was to add all the lovely chemicals to our water supply to keep us fit and well. I think my favourite pic is the diary showing the close down notes for the shutting down of the plant. I have been back since and it seemed to be staying in good condition, especially as they locked it down at one point. I havent been that way for about two years so I am hoping to revisit soon just to check it out again.
The last couple of pics were taken by my mate, credit to him. (in case he trys to sue me).
Some extra info from a mate of ColinBa-The old Bryn Cowlyd WTW received raw water from Colwyd Reservoir. The works consisted of 3 microstainers(24micron) lime addition and chlorination with the addition of phosphoric acid in small amount to react with lead pipe in houses to form lead phosphate-this was to meet the then lead limit of 50 microgram per litre (now(25µg/l and due to drop still further under EEC Directive to 10µg/l).
The new works was built on the valley floor due to the inaccessibility of Bryn Cowlyd (lime in bags were brought in the back of a Land Rover) and chlorine was added at the bottom of the hill directly into the outlet main to overcome transportation of chlorine cylinders to the Works. The new works was built to meet the more exacting standards than when the old works was built.
