The West Central District Post Office lies just off Oxford Street and High Holborn, It was built by the old Ministry of Works between 1961 and 1969 and ceased operations as a sorting office in the early 1990s. The British Museum had at one point planned on using it as a museum, but this fell through and it has now changed hands.
Anyone vaguely familiar with the building will probably remember the Scumtek rave which happened a few years ago there, where the ravers managed to get into the post office railway... the ground floors are also more recently rented out from time to time for artsy events.
The building is largely un-exciting and remains as a stripped lump of concrete with only a few original fixtures... but anyway thought it might be of interest to someone.

The first and second floors are large double height spaces where the mail would once have been handled and transported via the hanging racks.
Speakers left over from the rave remain in place.
Shafts would have transported the sorted mail directly below to the post office railway and then on towards Whitechapel.
Higher floors consist mainly of empty office space...
Unfortunately the roof was inaccessible but there was a nice view over Bloomsbury from the top floor.

Much dead wildlife populated the stairwell and lift rooms.

The basement consisted of a large parking and unloading space ,several plant rooms and not much else.
