this was the start of my UberX career that was rather short lived until recently.

Years ago i used to live Just down the road from Cane Hill but I never knew what the castle on the hill was until I moved away. I went back to Cane Hill but it was too late and it was literally just a shell and was in the process of being demolished.

once I knew what Cane Hill Was I started reading about it online and stumbled across 28DL and I used to spend hours Reading reports and looking at photos of peoples explores, do used to be a dedicated website also for Canehill and I also found one for the Canadian Red Cross Memorial Hospital.

It was on here but I discovered West Park and decided I needed to visit, i used to go with my cousin And we would spend hours wandering around West Park trying to find a way in and normally failing.

We managed to get in a couple of times once in the hospital and once in the laundry area, But our visits were always cut short either by time constraints or by MC Hammer. we also managed to get into the mortuary and I’m surprised that there was never a slab in there just a lot of mummified rats And brain slides.

So sadly I never got to see the whole of West Park on the inside but I absolutely loved what I did say, I did have an old account on here at the time that is totally defunct now. these pictures were taken around 10 years ago before it was demolished, on my old point and shoot Canon Power shot camera I just thought I would share them for the nostalgia.

(sorry about the punctuation I’m dictating this to an iPad that is partially deaf and appears to not understand me)

History (borrowed from here)

West Park was opened in 1921 although it had been largely complete since 1917, the outbreak of the First World War delayed the opening until that year. It was the last of the famous 'Epsom Cluster' of institutions to open, the others being Long Grove, Horton, Manor and St. Ebba's and the last of the great mental hospitals built in the London area. During the 1980s and 1990s the Care in the Community initiatives and changing attitudes towards mental health treatment meant the large scale closure of asylums across the country began. West Park was gradually run down from the mid-1990s until it officially closed in 2003, although various buildings towards the north end of the site are still in use as operational hospital buildings to this day.

That's a real blast from the past. I'm so happy this place went before the rise of the goon.

Re. the mortuary. It used to have a slab in it but in the 1980s the original Chapel which was situated next to it was demolished, and after that the slab was removed and the building turned into a pathology lab. The only thing that gave away that there was once a slab in there was the old guttering in the floor of one of the rooms which was turned into storage.
