After looking at some other stuff around the city centre this place had again caught my eye, Last year we sat at the traffic lights peering up at different access routes. It’s not the hardest, It’s just getting inside the building without setting off one of the many alarms doted about.
We were slightly disappointed in the 4/5 floors that we visited inside the building as they have been converted into bland office space.
Constructed between 1896 and 1898 and Grade 2 listed Albion House was designed by Richard Norman Shaw & J Francis Doyle.
White Star Line once known as Ismay, Imrie & Company used the building as their headquarters until 1927 when then merged with Cunard Line. Before this in 1912 the employees working inside the building when the Titanic sank were too scared to leave the building to announce the news they read out the list of the dead from one of the balconies.
25 years after this the building’s roof and gable were severely damaged in the second world war, The building is also known as the ‘Streaky Bacon Building’ because of its distinct brickwork and pattern.
