The History
I couldn’t really find much out about this place but had driven passed it many times and often wondered what it was, here’s what little history I found.
Willis & Gambler where situated in Saffron Walden. The company sold its products to top of the range stores, such as John Lewis, House of Fraser, Laura Ashley and Marks and Spencer.
They started life in 1990 as a bed designer and importer originally based down the road in Takeley. Willis & Gambler moved to the Radwinter Road site in 1998 and stayed there until June 2008 when they moved to a freshly leased 545,000sq ft. warehouse in Peterborough. In October 2008 the company was closed down after going in to administration.
The Explore
Whilst out on a mooch about with another explorer and looking for a hospital that we had been given a false lead on we decided to have a look at this place. The site was massively trashed from the outside so I didn’t have huge hopes for the inside. Nearly every window was smashed and made for nice and easy access. Inside was your typical derelict warehouse, covered in graffiti, makeshift skateboard and BMX ramps and litter everywhere. I’m only really reporting this as the graff was nice. I have driven passed here recently and the site has been flattened and is being redeveloped for housing.
