Having walked the perimeter of this lake since a child, I am amazed I have not been inclined to look for the inner workings so to speak! Today I got inquisitive, so myself and Incognito had a mooch, and stayed pretty dry!
The reservoir was built in 1956 and is constructed with a simple earth embankment, and not with a concrete dam as such. In 2011 a new water discharge spillway was constructed to cope with possible future flooding, but this is all modern concrete channeling above ground, and a little boring, unless you fancy your luck on a bike, skateboard, kayak or something similar! I expect photos of these activities to follow please :-)
When the reservoir was constructed, it had the usual overspill type funnel to one side of the lake, the outfall from this hidden out of view at the bottom of the hill.
As I have neglected my exploring side for a while, it took a little time to get back into the swing of shooting in the dark, and it's surprising how you can lose hours underground in a relatively short tunnel! (OK, not that short).
Well worth the explore, but wouldn't travel miles to do this one!
I think when resizing the pics I have lost some clarity. Really need to get some software sorted! I really need to get back out practising and actually using my camera!
