Wasn’t too sure whether this was report worthy or not, but it’s a bit different so sod it. Why not eh?
One I’ve had my eye on for a couple of years as it is literally down the road from mine. I’ve seen it open and the odd smackhead venture inside but missed my chance. Thanks to @host for the heads up that it was doable. I managed to sneak away from helping the mrs clean our old house (the one down the road) plus I really couldn’t be arsed painting some walls. So a wee wander it was.
It’s in pretty decent nick to be fair. There was a few needles in the offices but no signs of anyone actually living there and it seems this place is checked up on quite frequently.

History
Built in 1849 the Gothic church is grade II listed and is currently on the English Heritage buildings at risk register. It seems it is slowly getting nearer to Stockport as it moves down the hill. It is currently having remedial works carried out and it had a new slate roof fitted around 2013ish thanks to lottery heritage funding. The most recent works were the removal of several stained glass windows which have been placed into storage. The plans are for more repair works from lottery funding to be carried out so it can re open.
In the basement to the church there was/is an amateur boxing club gym. When the church closed in 2012 the gym moved into a nearby Fire station but for some reason they left everything as it is. I believe now that the boxing club have started using the Hatton gym in Hyde. Whilst we’re on about sport the congregation’s football team went on to become Stockport County.
Pics
Starting off in the basement. The gym looks like it was last used last night!
Unfortunately someone has vandalised the place with this shite
A young Ricky Hatton and that picture of Ali
Ali again
Had to be done
There was a couple of old storerooms behind the stage
Moving upstairs into the church
There’s still the odd bit of stained glass about
