One of the more well-known coal mines in Germany we visited on our last year's industrial trip. Two of the three friends I went with have already been there years ago, but they only managed to see the winding tower. Back then the compressor hall had a loud alarm, which didn't mix well with the on-site security. Some time later, we learned that the compressor hall was no longer secured and we also saw photos from the control room. We planned to visit during multiple trips west but there always were better things to see and this compressor hall didn't look like it was going anywhere anytime soon, so we managed to keep pushing it off until last summer, when the time finally came.
The explore was uneventful at best. The area was partly in use with some of the administrative buildings having event spaces and shops, but the compressor hall was still abandoned. Inside, we found the control room plastered with OSB, which sucked, and the compressors were a bit more dismantled than they used to be, but overall it was nice to finally get this off the list. The architecture alone was a sight to behold. We tried to get into the winding house next to the compressor hall as well, but that didn't work out, so we packed our things and were off to another adventure.
Without the control room and with the partial dismantlement, I will give it a "why not" out of 10. Now on with the photos!
As always, thanks for reading!
