Modern compacts kick arse. I was going to suggest Canon G1X.

Like I said to you down the mines the other week, I have personally tested the D90 against the then current Canon equivalent, exact settings and lenses, and the Nikon blew the Canon away every time. When my Canon died I had no hesitation in buying a Nikon replacement.

For info I use a D90 with the Tokina 11-16 lens, a combination I'm more than happy with for the last 5 years.

If you go with the 60D and Tokina 11-16 lens. Go £10 over budget and you can add a 50mm 1.8.

That's a shame, I was just having a clear out as well
