Favourite place I've ever visited has to be Hellingly. Probably because it was the first place I explored and I couldn't get enough of the history of it. I spent an inordinate amount of time there given how far it was from my house at the time.

No idea about the worst place, there's been too many to mention!
hell yer Hellingly was amazing, I done many a sick day off work to go around that place, I even went there at mid night and got a rather nice 1960s phone from there, its just such a shame that all these places, have the same fate upper middle class flats

how did you use to find out about places, in those days, I used to use this web site http://www.simoncornwell.com/urbex/ but I still look at it from time to time, just to see what places were like before they got really smashed up

I live near Hellingly so have always known about it, before the interweb though a group of us used to all chip in petrol and just drive around looking for stuff at the weekends.

Good old research!

A friend of my mothers found out about Hellingly, once you've been to one asylum you start looking to see if there are any more. My boss at my old job told me about this huge old red derelict building he'd been past on holiday that looked like somewhere I'd like to go. Started looking at the area, went to check it out and it turned out to be Whittingham (which I'd never heard of at the time).

I don't miss those AA print out directions though that would just get you to the general area you needed to be in.

Haven't checked in on this for a while but I'm going to add my back up location as Bargate. It's the only one of its kind and I love it.

The best tip is don't post on a publicly viewable internet site where you're going and when. Now the security will know to expect you instead of sitting in their cabin watching porn on their phones :(

Ha, got escorted off by security that thought they were 'the flying squad' I don't care in the slightest about the police turning up, but the pretend 'flying Squad' have to make out 'it's really serious.' The thing I care about the most is not seeing the place in its entirety. Oh well, can't win em all.
