Visited with billy no mates.
Glad I got to see this, wish I'd been years ago.
This was built in 1941 as a way to get ammunition from the railway at Farleigh Down to the ammunition depot at Monkton Farleigh. The tunnel was designed to handle 1000 tons of ammunition daily.
I knew the tunnel was long but didn't know it was 2,200 yards long
Remains of the rail sidings.
Pill boxes
Platform
Slope shaft
Security doors
Sorting yard
Start of the tunnel
The tunnel
Half way
After 60 odd years the rollers still run smooth
