It's been done a couple of times before, although I seem to remember the photos being very poor and taken at night so god knows what it's actually like in there.

I'm a big fan of lime kilns and concrete.
Odd looking lump of limestone in that tipper!

I tend to look at a lot of smaller limekilns though. Here's one that that has received some TLC in recent years.

I was wondering what use it is past a certain point lol, I presume they don't use a straight one to avoid stuff catching on it?

correct - they had to get rid of them in the brixton storm relief for that very reason - they used to hang straight down

The gate valve and counterweights is rather nice though.

Haha they're slimy as well. Yeah i assume that hanging gate valve holds back the thames at anything but the lowest tides. The low level is forced 20' up thru it in storm conditions - or used to be. Its redundant now
