This drain gets its name from the sewage overflow surface scrapers it hides within its bowels to keep the solids from the sewers entering the culvert and making its way into the river.
A mix of RBP (round brick pipe), RCP and box BCP make up this almost 2 mile stretch of underground passage channeling the Moston brook.
Along the way there are connecting in falls from various brooks and sewers along with storm drop shafts and access chambers.
Around half way through the system there is an abundance of iron oxide and calcite formations hanging from the ceiling.
The CSO (combined sewage overflows) which were a Victorian concept can be smelt at various points throughout.
The older brickwork section has been fixed over the years due to it diminishing over time and leads to a 10ft bricked outfall.
Following on from the outfall of the Processor is a large P37 Penstock marking the beginning of βthe worksβ, but that's an explore for another day.
After clearing some debris from the in fall grill that gathered from the past few weeks of heavy rain we slithered in down the side and were in.
Before entering we thought we were heading to ''the works'' until we realized it didn't match up to the photos.
after speaking with @parky_prick_maestro it seemed we entered 'The Processor' and that the ''The Works'' was further downstream.
explored with @MotionlessMike and after entering the start of the works we decided the back breaking stoop would be tackled another day.
lovely stalss
CSO to the right
brick p0rn
Every poop processor ive seen in a drain looks like its been decommissioned and this one was no different
After exiting the Processor we entered a bit of the works and got to this big ol penstock
Intrusive thoughts won a while back and i poked one of these and my finger went all the way through
Ooooooooof! Some gorgeous pictures there. Doing Manchester proud. The times I've been through Processor, which granted is not for years now, I've always kinda loved it.
