Underground Reservoir, Bolton.
Built in 1963, the reservoir is roughly 40m wide, 40m long and 5.4m high
With its thick concrete walls, it was designed to store up to 12 million litres of water in case of a water shortage but it was never used by United Utilities, which now manages the North Westโs water supply
I had tried to locate this place a few weeks before and missed it by only 500 yards, a return visit after an earlier fail in the same area. Another look at the maps and I sound worked out the location
What I expected to be a short mooch turned out slightly longer, as lighting this place is a right bitch!
