Back to the original point, why explore it at night?
Yes its difficult at this time of year with dark nights, but given the option its a weird thing to do because it feels more spooky.
As mentioned there is increased risk of injuring yourself & as @mookster said to a point being seen, you can see a lot more & therefore appreciate the building / artefacts better with some light.
I do however appreciate not everyone explores for the same reason so if you just want to go for the frights it makes sense.
