Secondly just a little history on the lighthouse and observatory.
They were both built by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board.
The observatory was used to create tide time tables using the stars.
The lighthouse is quite far inland and instead of warning of danger to shipping it was used as a navigation point along with lighthouses in Leasowe , Hoylake, New Brighton and the North Wall of the Port of Liverpool called the Bootle Bull.
Only the lighthouses at Hoylake, Leasowe and New Brighton are still standing.
